We want to drastically reduce our carbon emissions and work toward a clean energy future. In short, save the planet.
This serious challenge provides an unprecedented opportunity to revive our economy, move towards renewable sources of energy, reduce our dependence on oil, and create millions of green jobs.
We know that you know this the United Kingdom need a more sustainable lifestyle by conserving energy and consuming fewer goods our economic future requires a transformation from oil, gas, and coal to renewable energy sources such as wind and solar and we must play a leading role in addressing climate change by reducing our own greenhouse gas emissions.
We need to act now to limit and eventually halt the impacts of global warming on human communities and natural ecosystems. On your behalf, Rock the Vote – joining dozens of organizations from across the political spectrum and representing people in all walks of life – signed onto a set of principles that, if enacted, would transform the ways we and the rest of the world produce and use energy to achieve dramatic improvements in efficiency in our homes, businesses, and vehicles and move to clean, renewable energy like wind and solar power. Here are those principles:
- Reduce the risk of catastrophic global warming by establishing science-based pollution reduction targets and taking international leadership on enforceable treaties;
- Design effective and efficient solutions like using proven land use and forestry practices, making polluters pay for pollution through a "tax" system, and reward those who reduce the pollution that they produce.
- Alleviate the impacts of climate justice issues by helping low- and moderate-income citizens transition to clean energy and protecting UK workers in the carbon-based economy;
- Accelerate the transition to a clean energy economy by investing in new technologies, establishing clean energy standards, expanding opportunities for green-collar jobs, and investing in infrastructure.
